"crumbs" in urine

Question:

My Rottweiler has recently begun peeing on the floor during the night. I see something that resembles graham cracker crumbs where the puddle has dried. They are hard like stones….which is probably what they are. Kidney stones?? Has anyone had experience with this? I plan on taking her to the vet. Just want to get a heads up on what is happening here. Thanks for any help. Greg

Hello Greg, I’m a Registered Nurse.  This is my first time visiting this newsgroup.  I would guess that hard substance is puss or blood clots that have dried on your floor.  Sounds like your dog has a bladder infection.  But it might be kidney stones.  Your vet could find out for sure. manuel villanueva http://www.manuelsweb.com

Response:

Could be bladder stones, which would cause a fullness in the bladder and need to express it more often.  We had a beagle type dog with bladder stone problems.  First time surgical removal.  However, stones returned and we opted for the prescription food that dissolves them over time. (I think it was Hill’s CD) She was kept on this food the rest of her life, urine periodically checked for acidity and Snoopy lived to be 17 years old! Keep us posted. Robin
