new budgie
Question:
It is a lutino and as it isn,t terrified of your hand at this early stage I think you are onto a winner here. I am so pleased for you. Let us know occasionally how things go with your new bird. What have you called it?

well….i really don’t know the terminology for the names-but i think it might be. red eyes, almost totally yellow bar the patches and the last few wing feathers are a little lighter towards yellowy white-sound like a lutino? by coincidence i had been chatting to an old neighbour when she told me a friend bred budgies and had a few. i knew there wouldn’t be that many at this time of year but like i said-i had an image in my head of a colour type i had seen and there it was! i really don’t mind if it’s a male or female-my last 2 were females and were friendly enough. i just hope this one doesn’t get the egg laying habit. tonight i have tried to leave him/her in peace as much as possible to get calmed down although it has started chirping so that’s a good sign. hopefully it will discover it’s seed dish quickly but there’s some millet in there anyway. i did chance putting my hand in and it did step somewhat reluctantly onto my finger before hopping back off again-so it’s now just a matter of time i guess. gareth

so the day has arrived. my previous budgie died early december and we didn’t want to get a new one straight away due to the rush of xmas. and of course they are rather hard to come by at this time of year. all that doesn’t matter though because today we bought my ideal colour-a bright yellow budgie with just a couple of white flecks on his/her cheeks. he/she is about 12 weeks old.-is this too early for the cere to have reached it’s ultimate colour? i doubt it had any bars on it’s head to begin with. also i heard yellow ones disobey the usual rules about cere colour anyway? it’s a kind of pinky colour right now-any ideas? anyway,it’s currently in it’s new cage and we have covered it up for a few hours to let it calm down. i’m sure it will be tame in no time. — Gareth.

Joey is a great name. I had a beagle named Joey and he was the most lovable dog I’d ever owned. Jan

if it is green, howabout ‘bogey’ cos they are green and on the end of your finger too lol. My son used to have a tame peach faced lovebird called ‘bogey’ some years ago. — Outgoing mail is certified Virus Free. Checked by AVG anti-virus system (http://www.grisoft.com).

i decided to leave the decision up to the rest of the family who settled on the incredibly original budgie name of ….. joey (!) should be joey the second as i had one named joey when i was 5 but i guess it’s a good budgie name. — gareth-quote of the day ‘bring me my dinner wife’

brought my new budgie home tonight. i managed to find a local breeder -apparently a good one too before ill health reduced him to keeping only a few. it’s a boy and he’s just starting his first moult. he’s been handled from hatching so hopefully he will tame well -for the moment i’m just going to leave him be until he finds his feet. now i just need to think of a name……. — gareth-quote of the day ‘bring me my dinner wife’

Since he’s green, think of green characters…. Kermit/Kermy, I’d offer Bert, but that’s my guy’s name! I’m also partial to ‘pet’ names like Squirt. Ravl
