My system switched into 4WD low on its own. No one hit any buttons. Who the **** are you anyway? How would you know what happened to my truck? Were you there? I have the one of the very first updated encoder motor in my truck at this time. So far no problems yet. RM maybe you should take your own advice and not give any.
Response:
My dog is always talking on my CB. I hate it and wish he would stop because he always leaves it turned on. The Dawg

Probably right, Brian. You wouldn’t have done any damage in the small amount of time you had it engaged. Ian

I just did a test and discovered that the truck will go into 4lo from 2wd if you hit the button and shift from park to drive at normal speed. This could have been what happened. — TIA Brian Jones

I’ve actually seen this a couple times before at the shop. The location of the switchs on the S-10 make this fairly easy to do. — Old Crow ‘82 FLTC 92" ‘Pearl’ TOMKAT, SENS, BS#133, DOF#51 ASE Certified Master Auto Tech Chevy Certified Master Tech

I have a 2003 Avalanche that did the same thing. The encoder motors are bad. I just had a updated encoder put in and so far it is fine.

Howdy all I have a 2000 S-10 4×4 with 30k on it. The strangest thing happened to me to day when I was at the gas station. I started the truck and headed out of the parking lot and noticed the trans shifting strangely. I could not figure out what was causing the problem until I was about 100 yards and 2 90 degree turns from the pump. The truck was in 4 LOW!! When I turned the truck off to gas up it was in 2wd I started it up and sat in park for 30 sec. and put it into drive. I don’t think is was ever in neutral long enough to have accidentally pushed 4lo, (but you have to go into 4hi first I think) My 2 questions. Have any of you ever heard of a truck with this system doing this? Do you think I did any damage to the drivetrain while in 4lo for 100 yards on dry pavement going 10mph or less? — TIA Brian Jones
