Question:
You should read a few books on feeding raw.You want to balance the diet and not just feed anything. A good website is: http://www.njboxers.com/faqs.htm Turkey and chicken necks are good. Actually turkey necks are pretty hefty. Chicken backs are good too. As far as veggies go, in the wild dogs get veggies from the stomach of their prey. That means it’s already chewed and partially digested. You want to try to simulate that. I puree all veggies in a Cuisinart, to pulverize them and break down the cellulose so the nutrients are more easily digested. Bonnie in NJ with two barf fed pugs

(There’s a question at the end. Honest.) Unable to settle on a diet, I’m feeding everything: premium chow, cooked meat and vegetables, and now, more and more raw. Mac often gets a turkey neck and l’il Pip, a chicken neck. Convenient. Neither dog is a gnawer, and I haven’t quite mustered the courage to give large bones. So, they’re getting raw meat balls: hamburger mixed with finely chopped raw vegetables. My questions are about the vegetables. Do dogs digest them? If they don’t, shouldn’t there be evidence in their stool? (I haven’t noticed it.) If they don’t, would it help to macerate them for a while in digestive enzymes? >"It is by muteness that a dog becomes so utterly beyond value. >With him, words play no torturing tricks."

Just the link I need. Thanks, Bonnie. I’m using Pitcairn, but doubt I’ll have the courage to feed a raw diet exclusively. Trying to straddle all the bases
Response:
Personally, I don’t feed any grain. That’s why I don’t do Pitcairn. But many raw and home-cooked feeders do feed grain. Do what you feel works for you and your dog. But do the research too. Good luck. Feel free to contact me privately. That web site does answer a lot of questions though. Bonnie in NJ
