Best 10" For 70's Princeton
Question:
Anyone got a good suggestion for a 10" replacement speaker for my mid-70’s Princeton Reverb? The original speaker works but sounds pretty farty on the bottom end. I swapped in an early 90’s blue frame RI Bassman speaker (think it’s an Eminence) I had laying around and that helped a lot. Thought there may be a really good one out there that will hold the bottom while retaining the top end. Any ideas?

I haven’t tried them yet, but Avatar has some British made Celestion Vox Bulldog 10" speakers for sale at a very good price. They seem to be for a Vox combo, but I’m going to try them in a closed back 4×10 cabinet. Next project. They’re a good enough price, that they’re probably worth a try. I got four of them for way less than it cost me to buy the four alnico Eminence speakers that’re in my cabinet now. Pete — One egg left? I’ve put Celestion Vintage 10s in a few (sounds like a baby V30). Now discontinued, but still a few out there. Eminence now has a few 10s that look promising for big lows from a 10, especially the RamRod.

- Weber 10F150T w/50w v/c, undoped; huge bottom & loud/efficient for size/price, good balance with highs through range. – Weber C10CA w/paper cap, undoped; slightly less bottom/efficiency than above though still plenty big/loud compared to stock, superior lead spkr, heavy fkr, indestructible in a PR, colorless & faithful (i.e., will bring out every good thing in your amp/axe/hands, and every crap thing or sloppy playing if you aren’t any good). Sort of a poor man’s JBL. I use both & switch from time to time depending upon primary use for the little PR.

Call Weber-VST (765)452-1249. Or, go to http://www.webervst.com/. Personally, I would call. You can talk to a real live human being, who will then actually make the speaker you want. eric – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – > Anyone got a good suggestion for a 10" replacement speaker for my mid-70’s > Princeton Reverb? Thanks Phil. It’s a pile of parts at the moment, but I got a little bit farther on it, and I think I’m done shielding it now. I just updated the page about the shielding a few minutes ago: http://lasttelecaster.home.comcast.net/strat/StratTwo.htm I’m too exhausted to get up and go to bed. I just restrung my neighbor’s daughter’s beginner’s guitar this evening, and it’s one of those horible cheap guitars that you can’t tune. I think that I need to tell her that she needs to get her kid a better guitar. I don’t think that it’s worth installing better tuners. I’m going to have to figure out how to deal with this situation. This thing is worse than my first guitar, and that’s just not good. Pete — One egg left? For a nutritious breakfast, two eggs is the minimum requirement! And I have but one, which is one shy of two! Thanks veryone for the suggestions. BTW, does Kendrick still make speakers? I have pairs in an old Brownface 2×10 Super and in a 2xd12 BF Pro Reverb and they sound fabulous.

Reverend All-Tone 1025 — afaik made by Eminience to Joe Naylor’s specs and imo quite reasonably priced. My younger son has the earlier 1030 model in his Princeton-sized tube amp and it’s sounds both big ‘n beefy and chimey-clear. Joe says the 1025 is even better and I tend to believe him. <http://reverenddirect.com/reverend/amps_etc/alltone_1025_speaker.html> Posted via TITANnews – Uncensored Newsgroups Access >>>> at http://www.TitanNews.com <<<< -=Every Newsgroup – Anonymous, UNCENSORED, BROADBAND Downloads=-

No mention of the Reverend 1025? I haven’t installed mine in my whiteface Gibson Skylark yet, but the Alltone 1250 was a massive improvement for my Fender Blues Jr. They’re relatively cheap. Y’all try ‘em. By the way, no affiliaton other than as a satisfied customer. Looking forward to other input. Steve – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text ->I got the 16ohm versions. I have a JBL E110 in mine. There’s a number of pickers in this neck of the woods that particularly covet this amp, so I guess it was a good choice. Joe Liberty in my Lifetime! http://q-music.com

I have a Weber C10NQ in my 1971 Princeton Reverb and like it a lot. Not quite as bright as stated but it has a ton more low end than the C10Q. I got mine with a doped surround so I wouldn’t get ghost notes. I believe the model numbers have changed since the C10NQ. As I recall, if you google it, you can find a conversion chart. Wayne

I have a Weber C10Q (not sure what the new model number is) in mine and it was a mega improvement over the original Oxford. It has a tight bottom end and is very chimey. Another speaker which I’m using in an Allen Old Flame is the Reverend Alltone 10" that they sell for about $40. This speaker sounds fabulous in the Allen and is very light in weight. I’ve never tried one in the PR but it could be a good choice. Most of the hardcore PR players I know use the Weber C10NQ or C10Q (a couple use the C10N). A few more use the P versions. They all love their Weber VST speakers in their PRs. > I believe the > model numbers have changed since the C10NQ. As I recall, if you google it, > you can find a conversion chart.
There should be one on their site, but if not, just write or call and ask. -GJ
