Sacking Dan Rather does precisely shit. He’s a talking head, and has maybe a couple of years max left in him. I don’t lay the whole thing on Dan Rather…I believe he had many willing support staff that took the bait… and you better believe, they are *hoping* Dan Rather is the one to take the fall. The watercooler talk in that building has got to be interesting. That said, I don’t care *if* Dan Rather fell for this one… the most despicable, incompetant, biased, talking head on the broadcast news is Peter Jennings, IMO. Far, far worse than Rather or Brokaw. ‘Unprofessional’, many say.

I don’t think CBS will do anything, but I agree with the guy running the website that Dan Rather should shoulder the blame. I’m getting tired of all the liberal media, including newsprint and TV and radio news, all pretending to be presenting the news, when they’re making blatant attempts to influence politics. If they would call their liberal news what it is, "Leftwing News", then it would be a little bit more acceptable. They need to run the same type of disclaimer that they run before showing an infomercial. Something to inform people that what they’re about to see isn’t *really* news, but an attempt to influence how the viewer votes. Pete — –Plank

CBS should have kept Walter Cronkite and traded Dan Rather to ABC for Peter Jennings and 2 cable-channel players to be named later, 25 years ago. Why CBS can’t get it in their heads (merely by reading Nielsen reports) that Dan Rather sucks, did suck, and always will suck, I have no idea. The only reason I can imagine that Dan Rather still has a job at CBS is that he’s sucking or kissing something very disgusting. > I’m getting tired of all the liberal media, including newsprint and TV and > radio news, all pretending to be presenting the news, when they’re making > blatant attempts to influence politics.
Golly, Pete, have you ever tried reading the press in other English language countries, like Australia, England & Ireland? They usually have a no quarter given cynical attitude about politicians in general, an attitude that I think the US press (which is practically an administration handmaiden in comparison to even the Canadian press) would do well to emulate. Giving politicos a free pass from criticism is an invitation to abuse. Here’s another idea: have the US President defend his positions in front of Congress every week, same way the Prime Minister in England does during Question Time, instead of living in a cocoon of brown-nosing cheerleading sycophants who don’t dare question his policies. I bet GWB would’ve been a bit better prepared for debates if he’d had to do QT once a week. — Ned Carlson Triode Electronics Chicago,IL USA www.triodeelectronics.com

Dan Rather makes a report based on documents that CBS can no longer verify, and he must go? BUSH lied to us about Iraq seeking "yellow cake." Shouldn’t he be held to a higher standard than a news reporter? BUSH MUST

Here’s the way all liberal media works. War/Bush/Bad, Kerry/Poodle/Good <repeat> War/Bush/Bad, Kerry/Poodle/Good <repeat> War/Bush/Bad, Kerry/Poodle/Good <repeat> War/Bush/Bad, Kerry/Poodle/Good <repeat> And none of them are willing to admit that what Bush did was amazingly successful when he said he was waging war on terrorists, and he took down two of the most dangerous governments in the mid east in less than four years. Here’s another trick of the liberal media, they’ve got half of the country believing that it matters that nobody found any weapons of mass destruction in Iraq. When we know that Hussein has used them, and they know he could make them whenever he wanted. And anyone who’s paying attention knows what a dangerous man he was, and that he’s filled more mass graves than imaginable with people who didn’t agree with him. Liberal media refuses to admit that the man was dangerous, and needed to be removed from power. George Bush did that, and you and everyone else should be thanking him for ignoring the UN who was bought and paid for by Hussein. >Here’s another idea: have the US President defend his >positions in front of Congress every week, same way the >Prime Minister in England does during Question Time, instead >of living in a cocoon of brown-nosing cheerleading >sycophants who don’t dare question his policies.
You must think that that’s a part of the president’s job for some reason. Pete — –Plank

Here’s a really interesting link about that. http://www.washingtonpost.com/ac2/wp-dyn/A32195-2004Jul6?language=pri… > Shouldn’t he be held to a higher standard than a news reporter?
Absolutely. It pains me that things like the above are not repeatedly hammered on by the administration. Their lack of doing so leads to a lot of problems and misconceptions. Their publicity people suck, and pretty much always have. There is so much left unsaid.
Response:
>Dan Rather makes a report based on documents that CBS can no >longer verify, and he must go?
He didn’t just "make a report" … he is also (still) managing editor. Which means he is responsible for all content, and whether or not to fo with a story. His "responsibility" (if there even is one), is to make headlines and exclusives. Don’t even dare to think that Rather has the responsibility of protecting the population of the US, as Bush does. Bush made his decisions based on the premise of the best route to go in order to save as many American lives as possible based on many scenarios. And I guess you missed the story where Tony Blair stated that the intel was based on more than just documents, and that he still believes that their intel "is correct". Either that, or you like to conveninetly leave out poignant *facts*. Besides, I would rather have it that Bush (… or any President or intel Agency) err on the side of our safety when it comes to the safety of the American public, as long as the intel comes from a proven reliable source. In this case, it did. Lostpup198 "I wish there was a knob on the TV to turn up the intelligence. There’s a knob called "brightness", but it doesn’t work." — Gallagher Comedian

Right about now Morvo from Futurama would be more credible than Rather. Claude
Response:
I admired Dan Rather for going after and asking the tough questions to Tricky Dicky just like Sam Donaldson used to hound Ronnie Raygunn. But nowdays, there is no bulldog representing the American people’s right to know. And now there’s a campaign to stifle it and the morons of the population are all for it? What a pathetic bunch of chumps. Rather made a mistake – fire him. Bush lied and thousands died. Oh, he gets to stay. This is going on in a parallel universe, right? No, it’s here! Really? But who would have thought there could be so many fucking stupid people? Mass hypnosis?

Morvo was one of the best characters on that show. Another good character is Lrrr, ruler of the planet Omicron Persei VIII Last night, they showed the Family Guy episode where the anchorman lied and told everyone that one of the scrolls had been found for winning a look inside this brewery that nobody had ever been the inside of before, so he apologizes and sticks an earwig into his ear: Tom Tucker: "What I did was wrong…… and as an act of contrition, I will now insert this carnivorous earwig into my brain." Live on the 6 PM CBS Evening News would be good. Extensive pre-insertion publicity is a must, so those of us like myself who haven’t bothered to watch the cretin for many years now can make it a point to tune in. An appropriate act of contrition for old Dan, as well. Then Morvo takes over. Ratings soar. Claude
