: Wanted Maltese Pair to breed : Pups or older but still under 3 : I live in Santa Rosa, Ca : I am 12 and would love to become a breeder :       Please e-mail me       Thanx    Whitney Martin, You say you want to be a breeder?  What kind of breeder do you want to be? You could be a breeder that everyone admires and respects.  You could be a breeder that every one says is the perfect breeder to buy from.  Or you could be a lousy breeder.  A lousy breeder is one who breeds without much concern for the dogs or for dogs in general.  A lousy breeder thinks FIRST of himself or herself.  A great breeder thinks FIRST about the best interests of the dogs.  Have you heard about the thousands of dogs killed in shelters, more than a million dogs every year?  Where do these dogs come from?  They come from lousy breeders.  They come from breeder who did not think about the dogs first, or from breeders who did not learn how to become great breeders.  It is not age that will make you a good breeder, nor does youth make you a bad breeder.  Still there is much you need to learn to become a good breeder.   There is a lot about resonsible breeding that will surprise you. I know it surprised me.  This is especially true if you have never met or dealt with a responsible caring breeder.  I am in awed respect with what I have learned about the people who breed in true caring committment to the dogs. The first thing to do is to decide WHY you want to become a breeder. If the reason is that you love dogs then you are on your way.  If the reason is that you want to make money you can’t do that and still be a loving caring and responsible breeder.  So how does one become a good breeder?  Participate in dog events, learn to evaluate the conformation of the dog, learn to identify faults that might cause the dog a problem, learn what diseases you need to screen for to make sure your buyers get a healthy puppy, learn how to match your dog to the right family and how to say "no" if the match is bad.  There is more stuff to learn but that will get you started.  To do some more exploring take a look at my breeder’s ethics page: http://www.dog-play.com/ethics.html Please do some thinking first.  Here is how I recommend getting started. First, make a promise to yourself that you will honestly look at the information you get.  Plenty of time to argue with it later, for now just read it as something to consider. After you do your research you will, at the very least, be making your decision with knowledge.  The right to exercise choice means very little in the absence of such knowledge. There really is a lot more to responsible, caring breeding than it first appears.   Good Luck and write again soon — Diane Blackman Training is the art of learning to communicate with your dog, and providing the leadership to support confidence and caring. http://www.dog-play.com/obedience.html

Hi Gary, I am sort of surprised that not one of the derms could come up with a diagnosis.  Were any of those derms at a med school? Perhaps that’s where you’ll have better results.  I am going to e-mail you a couple names that I know. If you really have physical systems, I don’t think that’s properly called psychosomatic.  Psoriasis is often triggered by stress, but it is not a "psychosomatic" disease. What do you have?  I don’t know, but I’m a bit surprised that none of a series of competent dermatologists couldn’t give you a couple of good latin phrases for discussion.   I assume you’ve tried some psoriasis treatments, even though it doesn’t look like normal psoriasis?  Because, it does sound as if it acts more than a bit like psoriasis, and human variability is amazing. Response:

My name is Gary. I am 19 years old and I live in southern california. For the past six years I have had this skin condition. It isn’t psoriasis. I’ve been to countless specialists and have had 4 or so biopsies taken, but none of the dermatologists have been able to diagnose what exactly it is. It is similar to psoriasis though. A bump begins to form that appears like a bee sting, it then turns red in color and hardens. It begins to flake, and layer after layer the bump gets flatter and flatter then it leaves a purple scar. These bumps appear only my limbs and back, never on my torso or face. I have a suspicion that it could possibly be psychosomatic. I recently started getting colitis (inflammation of the intestines) and I know for sure that was psychosomatic because it began at a stressful time and its condition got better than worse depending on my stress level. It is tough dealing with this condition, especially in southern california. I live in a city with one of the best climates in america, people wear shorts and t shirts all days of the year, and I always have to cover up. And many people in southern california are very image conscious and concerned with looks. So many of the dermatologists here know nothing of skin disease, just laser treatment and scar removal, and how to do facials and things of that sort. And I go in there and they take a look at me and all they can do is scratch their head. I can’t even trust doctors anymore, it seems as though they care more about money than the well being of their patients. Some of these doctors had absolutely no clue about my skin disease, yet they’d advise me to go through all these expensive procedures, most of them probably unecessary. There are a lot more laser removal practices than ones that treat disease because laser removal is where the money is at. Especially in southern california. Anyways, I am new to these forums, and I was wondering which is the most populated skin disease forum? I need a little guidance here, I appreciate your peoples support. Thank you. Before you buy.

Ok How about the MS Foundation.  http://www.msfocus.org/aspart.htm I can give a host of others, but this is not dueling websites.  I agree fully with what Mary just posted.  I am not an advocate for aspartame, or Monsanto. It’s not a myth for some; I don’t do at all well on Aspartame.  I read all food labels and avoid it.  My husband uses it every day with no problem.  We all react differently to foods, meds, drugs, etc.  Some are very sensitive; others are not. Pat

What?  Maybe your browser is broken. If you want more material there’s plenty of it. For example, http://www.aspartameispoison.com/ for example has the “Aspartame Disease:  An Ignored Epidemic is a definitive book (1038 pages)   on reactions to aspartame, currently being used by more than two-thirds   of the population as an additive/sweetener.  Dr. Roberts is widely regarded   as the expert on a host of adverse effects from popular products containing   this synthetic chemical because of his many original observations and   extensive research spanning two decades.”
