vox brian may amp?
Question:
Anyone have one of these? If so,what do you think of it? Thanks,Jon Neet
Response:
I don’t have one, but I did try one briefly. Briefly, because it didn’t inspire me. As a distortion booster into a good amp, it *might* be ok. On it’s own, it’s sure nothing to get excited about. ~kp

Thanks for the info. Jon Neet

I agree. Totally overblown. Not even as good sounding as the Vox Pathfinder 10… Maybe it only works as advertised if it is front ended into another amp??? Would this be an amp that would make more sense if you were trying for that Brian May sound, and would pretty much suck for almost everyone else? I can’t remember how long ago it was, but I think guys were fascinated by his sound in the early ’80s. After A Night At The Opera hit. But I don’t know anybody who’s chasing that sound right now. Not that someone isn’t bound to turn up now and say he is. I saw it in the Sam Ash catalog, and it’s priced like a practice amp, so I hope it’s being judged against $150 practice amps, and not against tube Voxes. Pete — Why don’t we look into the future? That’s always good for a laugh. –Grim

It would be an amp that would make more sense if it were *used* as Brian May uses his "Deacy", the amp that this was supposedly designed after, and that’s to say as a preamp/booster in front of a "real" amp. I don’t consider this a "real" amp. > I saw it in the Sam Ash catalog, and it’s priced like a practice amp, > so I hope it’s being judged against $150 practice amps, and not > against tube Voxes.
That little Marshall MG15RCD (the older version) I had was $25 cheaper and sounded better. I have no problem with small solid state practice amps, as long as they sound good – and some do. What’s that Behringer amp that’s like the Trademark 10? That’s in the same catagory, but it kills this Vox model. Your Cube would probably do it a number too. This Brian May model is not a great amp, *I* don’t think. (Yeah, comparing against the same class of amps.) ~kp

with all the marketing clout/cache Vox(Korg) has (still!)..you’d think they put out a decent practice TUBE amp. A modestly priced (under 350 bucks say) tube amp with reverb tank would sell really well if it has ANY kind of quality. Somethingh to compete with the Fernder Blues Jr. that isn’t a 1000 bucks… I think Vox is run by morons mostly…those clowns can’t even mount a fucking speaker properly.. the dORIS cALIGULA oh, btw..that Brian May thing is utter crapolla…
