8 month old Pointer will not mind

Question:

Some high schools offer adult ed courses, including obedience (just be sure that, whatever class you choose, the training is reward-based).  Also, you can do obedience on your own – there was a thread on clicker training that would be helpful (use the dog’s natural moves to train, such as when he sits, downs, etc) Good luck Dorothy, owned by C.C., a very spoiled dachshund

Response:

Since you are not working, you have plenty of time to spend with your dog training him. There is a website that offers clicker training at clickersolutions.com. For $1.49 you can by a clicker at Petsmart and then print the lessons off the website to train him. janice

Hi there, my Pointer is a real doozie!  He cannot be left alone for more than 10 minutes without tearing up things (couch, shoes, etc).  Even when we have been out "having fun" he still tears everything up when we return.  He gets lots of love and constant attention. He is basically ruling the house!  How can I stop my sweet maniac!

Response:

He is crate trained and is incredibly intelligent.  Unfortunately, I am one of the unemployed at the moment and cannot afford to take him to classes.  I KNOW that I REALLY need to though.  Any ideas on how to find cheap or free classes?

and get him under control.  Basic obedience is a wonderful thing for the dog and the owner.  Also do you have a crate for him?  Most dogs love crates and this is a great way to confine the dog when you can’t keep an eye on him.  i am not saying lock him up in a crate all day but crate training is wonderful. Good  luck!! JP
