EARS
Question:
: : They stick straight out from her head horizontal to the ground. : She is half Dachshund snd half Yorkie. Is there anything I can do to : help her ears make up their minds as to which way they’ll go. Yoda ears!!! Relax. Her ears are going to go through a whole bunch of changes for the next 2 or 3 months. Sit back and enjoy the show. They’ll settle down to whatever they’re going to be by 6 months old. Lynn K. —

Thank you so much and everyone else who answered. I guess I will just relax and enjoy it. This dog is so hyper in that when awake she is never still. Because of that, I wouldn’t be surprised to see her chasing after the next space flight, ears flopping madly. – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – > : > : They stick straight out from her head horizontal to the ground. > : She is half Dachshund snd half Yorkie. My dad has a half pekignese (sp?) half chow pup. Talk about a little ball of fur!! It looks like a pekignese in the face; but his body looks all chow! He’s so cute! He’s about 6 inches tall! This sounds a lot like what I’ve been going through with my Ridgeback pup. RR people I’ve talked to called it "Flying-Nun Syndrome". Apparently in RRs it happens when they are teething and is due to cartilage in their ears hardening up. The suggestions were to tape the ears (stick duct tape to the under (furless) side of the ears from one ear to the other under her chin) and to supplement her diet with vitamin C (1000mg per day – she’s around 45 pounds though so your dog would probably need less – it’s not going to bother it if you give it more though). I’ve been doing both for a couple of weeks and she now has nice floppy ears again. Don’t know if it would work for your dog but if the Dumbo impersonation bugs you as much as it did me then its worth trying.
