Heartguard or Interceptor?
Question:
We have 2 black lab/dalmation dogs. The male came down with Hookworms 3 weeks ago, which both dogs were treated for. The female was diagnosed with WhipWorms yesterday. The doctor suggested we swithc their heartworm prevention from Heartguard to Interceptor, but a nurse friend suggested we stick with the Heartguard? We want to give the best possible preventative treatment to our dogs….does anyone have any experience with one or both of these products??
Response:
My dog has been on Interceptor since she was old enough to use a heartworm medicine. Interceptor also protects against other worms, and my dog has never had any worms at all (she’s on the medication year-round) Dorothy, owned by C.C., a very spoiled dachshund

I had always used Heartguard for my pets until we got shelties. we were advised to switch to Interceptor because the collie related dogs were senitive to something in heartguard. All I know about the difference between the two is that I was told that interceptor protects against a few more pest that heartguard does not. Interceptor is also not as forgiving if you forget to give it to you pet. I was told to make sure I didnt miss the date by more than 3 days. Hope this helps some.
