I can’t belive you are so rude to me OldMolly, we never intended to Hybrid ANY bird, all our babies except thse are pure bred, and I already said all the babies are stayinf here should the eggs be fertile. If this is the stance of this room, then I am off, My oldest friend MAY be a dad, and you lot are harping on about pureism, well, to heck with you, I have no intentions of starting a new "Strain", or passing babies onto anyone, why can my old friend now have a mate.. And you didn’t reply to my email about where to find a Painted.. So DONT get holier than thou with me my dear, try replying to just one email for once.. You asked about my Black Tailed/ Maroon bellied "pair", which we bought as such, and then went all quiet, so don’r get pious with me MADAM. If I and my family are happy about my first ever bird FINALLY becoming a Dad, and you lot don’t like it, well, just live with it, we may have 4-6 Hybrid Conures in 1 months time, but they will stay right here, so don’t tell me i’m causing species breakdown. If you lot want to chase en experienced bird keeper from this site, then go ahead and dis me, I could have brought a lot of experience to this room. Damn right! If the birds like each other and you plan on keeping the chicks, who cares what other people think. It shouldn’t matter if birds hybridize or not anyway unless someone’s trying to breed an attack bird. It’s like people who foam at the mouth when you mention buying un-weaned birds. I think potential bird owners should learn how to hand feed before they’re allowed to take the bird home. It shows dedication and you can pretty much rest assured that if they take the time to come in 2 or 3 times a day to hand feed their chicks that they’ll not neglect the bird when it gets home.

We are not trying to be sourpusses. Any serious bird keeper knows how important it is to keep a specie pure. > You can all rant as much as you like, but ALL of us here are so happy that > out ‘ole Dusty is a dad.. I am sorry that you have taken this attitude to people pointing out the whys and wherefores of not hybridising. It appears that your attitude is that you intend to do just as you please without care or regard for the birds. I still am at a loss to understand why you have taken this stand, and are so rude to those of us who expressed an opinion and voiced our fears. From your attitude, and general remarks I can tell that you are *not* a member of the parrot society. > Visit me and my birds at www.parrotcam.net

Although the chicks will no doubt be cute, mixing species is ethically the same as crossing dog breeds. The puppies are cute too, but still viewed as mutts. Jynx wasn’t very delicate making his point, but I do agree with the point of not crossing the species. As awful as this may sound and as much as I love those babies, I would toss the eggs. Then give the hen artificial eggs to incubate so she doesn’t burn out laying eggs. That way you can keep the mixed pair together since they are bonded. — Sincerely, Joanne If it’s right for you, then it’s right, . . . . . for you!!! This idea wasn’t originally to hybrid, Bonnie was part of a pair , Bonnie & Clyde.. They both escaped over a year ago, managed to pick the cage door open, and they where in that summerhouse I mentioned earlier, which we left a window open in as with all those windows it got hot in there. Bonnie stayed in next doors apple tree, and came right over to me, but Clyde wandered down the road, and was found by a woman who had never kept birds, fed him all kinds of human food, like chocolate biscuits, and by the time we picked him up, he had passed on. Bonnie pined badly for Clyde, and Dusty being a amenabale bird, we put her in to keep her company, and they clicked. We’ve looked for a Painted cock bird to replace Clyde, but so far with no luck.. But I think now I’d have to get a painted and a GC. As for the silly woman, I could rant for ages over that, I mean OK she hasn’t kept birds, but you have a tropical bird drop in your window, do you feed it fruit and veg? No, Pulses from the kitchen? No, Maybe some seeds you give to wild birds? No.. Chocolate biscuits for goodness sakes.. Clyde was an escapologist, we even normally had a small padlock on the cage, but the kids fed them, and forgot to put the padlock back.. And before anyone flys off the handle, I don’t blame them, kids are kids, they don’t think of everything they should do, but they where both devasted to lose Clyde. But that’s the grim side.. We’ve had problems trying to match Little Dusty up before, and had 2 other GC’s at different times, both who beat him up.. I have to admit I rather frown upon such hybridisings. If it were me I would have bought the appropriate birds to form 2 proper pairs. Hybridising birds like this is the easy option but may in time cause endless problems. Take for instance peach faced lovebirds and normal grey tiels. There are very very few oure ones about because of hybridising. I know I would not allow my gcc to mate with a maroon bellied. I went out and bought them proper partners. — Outgoing mail is certified Virus Free. Checked by AVG anti-virus system (http://www.grisoft.com).

I didn’t expect my mismatched pair of one Male GC (13 yrs) and Female Painted (3-4 yrs) to breed, but I always give them a bit of fuss, Dusty the GC is my oldest and first ever bird, and is my fave of the lot, so Him and Bonnie tend to get a fuss made of them, and have always really been pets rather than breeders. They have a nest box, but for the last 12 months just used it to sleep in, today they both stayed in the box, and there where some very odd noises coming from the pair of them, so worried, I opened the box.. And there was Bonnie astride and egg, not sure if it was late yesterday or early today, but hopefully tomorrow or Tues (They lay every 2 days till there is 4-6 eggs) there should be another. Don’t know if it’s fertile yet obviously, but a "Painted Green Cheek Conure" sounds a good mix to me LOL. Also explains why Bonnie has been a little "testy", and wanted to go back the the cage sooner (normally impossible to convince her to go back in). This means everything, except the quails are sitting eggs, we have budgie eggs in all 5 boxes, although I’ve not disturbed her, our Goldcrest Rosella seems to be sitting (And Dad is chasing Junior, last years baby away from the box), and the Bourkes hen is also sitting at least one egg. I think I may be needing an aviary extension LOL. — Visit me and my birds at www.parrotcam.net
