Looking for breeder near St. Augustine, FL

Question:

Brad, How about visiting the B.E.A.K.S. Bird Kare and Rescue Sanctuary in Big Talbot Island, FL?  That isn’t too far from you.  Or how about visiting your local humane society or animal shelter and bringing treats to all the pets there…..or the Pelican Man’s Bird Sanctuary in Sarasota isn’t that far away either…….but any of these are a much better choice than a puppy mill…..which should be shut down, not encouraged to continue Sue

Most ethical "dog breeding facilities" consist of a spare bedroom and an The type of operation you are describing is a "puppy mill", wherein conditions are so disgusting that "tours" are most certainly not on the menu. — Toni www.irish-wolfhounds.com e-mail Toni [at] irish-wolfhounds [dot] com

Hi Brad! I’m not sure what you’re seeking. A dog breeding facility – that doesn’t sound good to me – sounds like a hi-tech name for a puppy mill! I’m pretty sure a puppy mill is not a place where your girlfriend would want to visit!! Dogs shoved in tiny cages, piled on top of each other so their urine and feces lands on the dogs below, covered in filth and fleas, dead animals laying around – NOT my idea of a romantic vacation!! Breeding dogs in a "facility" is not done by anyone who is responsible. Most people who breed dogs have nothing more high tech than their home; some breeders and handlers have kennels, and perhaps that is all you were looking to visit? If so, you’ll really have to narrow your search down to a breed that interests you, and then find one who is willing to have visitors. These breeders don’t have all that much interesting to look at – dog runs with adult dogs, perhaps a litter at times, and maybe they’d have show trophies and photos to look at – but not enough to build a vacation around. Maybe there is a zoo in your area that will fit the bill of interesting animals to look at? Christy
