Ha!!  Good one! Obviously, we all like it here, or we wouldn’t keep coming back. If anyone finds us argumentative, pedantic, dogmatic, boring, or childish, they have the option not to partake. Arguing can be fun and informative at the same time. A little sense of humor never hurt anyone either. Unfortunately things like sarcasm, irony, mockery, and satire (all of MY favorite forms of enjoying a good conversation) do not translate well in a written medium. So that scathing jab that would be accompanied by a twinkle in your eye face to face comes across as mean, evil, and nasty. Or it WAS mean, evil, and nasty!! At any rate, don’t take it to heart. We’re here to enjoy ourselves and maybe learn something too. If you don’t enjoy it, don’t do it. If you find it fun- knock yourself out. Unless, of course, someone is standing behind you with a gun to your head forcing you to read this…..

Oh I bet if you think about it you met some nice people along the way too – its just that for some reason they are less memorable than the creeps you get to encounter in ANY group of people. I’ve been here for quite a while, thanks.    Don’t want a new attitude, I happen to like the one I have.  If you don’t like it, too bad, I ain’t gonna change. > Sudhir’s arguments are not > your typical newsgroup combative, ego-flexing exercises……Sudhir has been > one of the most thoughtful and informative posters on any of the rec.pets.dogs > ngs.

I love to argue.  That is basically why I come here.  Sometimes I even say things just to get some posts and see if there are any other opnions.  I think I learn more about the do’s and dont’s of dog breeding here.  I wish I had known about this place earlier.  I like it here.

Brenda, Try to understand that those of us who are deeply involved in the "dog world" in one capacity or another, are very passionate about the opinions we have.Aside from the silly name calling and insults, most "arguments" are not without merit, and both sides feel very strongly about their own position.    This is after all a discussion group. Now as for the other "stuff" that you see, many of them just ,I truly believe love a fight, and many of them become entertaining after a while.    I wouldn’t worry about it too much, just get involved in the topics that interest you. There are things to be learned in this NG…I for one have benefited already!     Rachel

Brenda, It comes and goes.  Being a public, unmoderated group, it is easy for things to get out of control and slide off base.  Some people really seem to enjoy the sparring and "battles of wits (or what passes for wits)" that they get into. What I do is as soon as I don’t like the way a thread is heades, I don’t read it any more.  There are also certain topics I don’t get into, either.  You’ll learn the names of the people who post things along the lines you are looking for, and you’ll pick up threads they’re involved with.  Same for people who are troublemakers or trolls.  If they enter a thread, stop reading that one. There are also some nice subscription e-mail lists for all sorts of dog topics, from general all-breed or mixed-breed ones, to breed or activity specific ones.  If you go to http://www.k9web.com/dog-faqs/, there is a list off all of them and how to subscribe.  Being moderated (most of them) they have definite rules that are generally followed and are less confrontational than Usenet.  I compare my golden list and usenet, and it is like a warm pool versus an acid bath!  But there is often a lot of good information out here in Usenet, if you can wade through the garbage to get to it.
