Blood in urine

Question:

My 8 year old Wirehaired Fox Terrier has some blood in his urine. The vet gave me some Amoxi-tabs to see if it clears up. No luck. He said he would have to stick a needle in the bladder to get a sterile sample of urine. Does anybody know if this is right or is there another way to get a sterile sample? I don’t want a needle stuck in his bladder. Does anybody have any suggestions on what this could be? Not allot of blood and only at the very end of his urination. 3 or 4 drops. Steve Cope Ft. Response:

Well this has happened to me with my Boxer Sandie, Sandie has a weeing problem, she always does it when laying down, so x-rays were required so she was sleeping at the time.  Ask why a cathiter(can’t spell it) cannot be inserted, to extract urine. I check my dogs urine every 4 weeks because she is prone to UTI and has mild disfunctioning kidneys, I use MULTISTIX 10DSF by BAYER they are for urine-analyse.  To collect a sample I boil a plastic tupperware lid so when she squats I stick it under her and then its sterile. – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text ->My 8 year old Wirehaired Fox Terrier has some blood in his urine. I had a four year old male pit bull ”altered" recently.  Within the first week I noticed blood in his urine too.  The vet said it was probably a uninary tract infection somehow related to the operation and that vitamin C  would help.  I gave him my 500mg chewables chopped up in a clump of wet food twice a day.  In just a couple days the urine was clear.   Good Luck -Laura.

Response:

Is it common for bitches who have undergone spaying have blood in their urine?  My dog was spayed recently, and since she got back from her op, she has been having blood traces in her urine daily.  A check with the vet said that it was common and after of week of the op, there was still blood.  The vet prescribed a different antibotics (Baytril) and almost a week on Baytril, and there is still blood in the urine. Has anyone has similar experiences?  Is it complications from the op, or a poorly done spay or some infections?  I’m getting worried. TIA.

I have a 12 year old Border Collie that passed blood in his urine this morning.  I don’t beleive that this is normal and I would be very concerned if it happened to me.  Does anyone have an idea as to whats going on and what I should do?

Response:

First off I would take him to the vet.It could be caused by a number of different reasons.Bladder infections, and or bladder stones will cause blood to appear.Dont wait on this,I would go to the vet ASAP!    R. – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – >I have a 12 year old Border Collie that passed blood in his urine this >morning.  I don’t beleive that this is normal and I would be very concerned >if it happened to me.  Does anyone have an idea as to whats going on and >what I should do?

What you should do is get him to the vet. That’s the best person to tell you what’s going on. Whatever it is, it’s not normal, and no one here can diagnose or treat your dog. Response:

It’s possible that your collie has a bladder infection.
