female spaying

Question:

When I had my 6 month old Cocker spayed, I took her in at 7:30 AM.  They did the surgery in the late AM and I picked her up around 6 pm.  My vet said that they no longer keep them overnight since they tend to heal better in their home surroundings.  Annie wasn’t feeling like her old self that evening, so I think it was good that she was at home with us. Good luck! Melinda

this is common practice. My vet told me the same thing.  Then I asked who was there at night to keep an eye on them and they said no one stays.  I told the vet, I will pick her up and take her home so I can watch her.  Didn’t make much sense to leave her there since no one was there to keep a watch on things. I work at an animal hospital.  We never keep animals overnight after spaying. The animals are more comfortable at home and there is nothing that they can do for your dog that you can’t.  Ask them to do it in the morning, and then they should not have to keep her overnight.  Your dog should be more comfortable at home, and thus you should take her home.  There is no reason to keep her.

Response:

Hi, Nope, they should let you take your baby home.  Find out why they want her to stay and if you don’t feel right about it take her somewhere else. When I had Sophie done I called about 7 different places to see which was cheapest and they all send the dog home around 6pm.  Good luck!!! I have never left a dog overnight after a spay.  And I’ve had dogs for the last 30 years and all females.  Check the time of surgery with your vet.  He might be trying to do it in the late afternoon.  I’ve always made sure that my dogs surgeries were done first thing in the morning. — Cyndi – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – > A quick question, we have made an appointment to have our 5 1/2 month > old golden retriever spayed next week.
