World Dog Show Question

Question:

>If it was large, it might have been the Tosa.

Who can be sure.  David Fryem the announcer (who is a judge) kept calling a Yorkie,  a Silky—over an over and over. > By the by, I was stunned when >a Neo made it to finals. Not even recognized in the U.S.

It’s called politics.  Look at what the Russian judge did. Sort of like watching the scores at an international figure skating championship.

Response:

It sure sounds like the Hokkaido.   It’s light brown/tan in coloring, like a Lab.   They’re breed standard lists them as being a bit smaller than a lab though, with pricked ears & a curly spitz tail.    It’s a pretty dog, reminds me a bit of a larger Finnish Spitz maybe?   I dunno. That’s the only Japanese breed I remember from that night that could’ve been thought of as beginning w/ a "O".    Some of the others were Japanese Terrier (I (It was black & white, although I think they come in other coat colors), Japanese Spitz (which is white, looks like the Am. Eskimo kinda), and the Tosa  (which is more mastffy in appearance w/ a short smooth coat). I really liked seeing all of the Asian/European breeds that are rarely seen over in the states!   (Especially those big ol’ cuddly Leonbergers!) Shelly, Coda & Guiness…

Response:

If it was the Spitz type dog, then possibly it was the Hoikkado (Man, I hope I spelled that correctly!)   When pronounced, it is a very soft "H", so it would sound a bit like an "o"  (think like maybe the "h" in honest…) Shelly, Coda & Guiness…

If it was large, it might have been the Tosa. By the by, I was stunned when a Neo made it to finals. Not even recognized in the U.S.

Response:

It was a larger dog, kind of reminded me of a lab type only more broad across the shoulders.  The nose is coming back to me as being very dark on the end.  It was at the beginning (like the first half an hour, cuz I took a shower at 9:30 so it was before that I think).  It was a larger dog, kind of tan in color. Thanks for any help. Debbie — Mom of Tristen-2 and another on the way.

Hmmm, they showed a couple of Japanese Terriers, a Japanese Spitz, and a Tosa Inu.  If the dog you’re thinking of had a short coat, it was the terrier. Lynn K.

If you remember the coloring/size or a little info on it, I could find it for you. I taped it,  and I also have a dog breeds book that has a Japanese author, so there are alot of Japanese breeds that I’d never seen before in it. It’s called "Legacy of the Dog". Just reply back here & let me know! Shelly, Coda & Guiness… p.s….I was just ecstatic that they actually focused in the camera on a Smooth Collie!   The smooths are so often overlooked for the roughs, I was so happy!

Yep!  I’m usually a sucker for tri’s, but that was a very pretty basenji! Shelly, Coda & Guiness…

Last night, we were watching the show on USA and also playing with my daughter.  (Not easy to hear all on TV since she is 2).  Anyway, during the first hour, they showed what they called "unusual breeds".  We both looked up and saw this dog at the same time and both liked it and would like to find out more about it.  We think they said something about a Japanese breed, it was a tan dog, and I think the name started with an O.  Does anyone remember this or have it on tape that they could look it up for me? I’d really appreciate it. Debbie —
