Scabby sore on Shih Tzu

Question:

Someone should take this poor dog to the vet to find out what the cause of this sore is if they have not already done so…

Maybe I’m misreading your post, but it sounds like you are thinking of doing all this without consulting the owners.  Please discuss with them whether they would like you to do this or not.  The dog belongs to them and I’m sure they know more about what has happened since the summer with this sore, if it is the same one.  This is a skin condition, not a life or death situation where you are being called upon to make decisions (it can wait 10 days).  I can only tell you that if a "friend" of mine was presumptuous enough to cut my dog’s hair and apply unnecessary medication without my consent, it would be the last time they sat with my dog.  At any rate, before applying antibiotics, you need to consult the dog’s vet and / or the owner.  You’re taking a risk without doing so.

Does she wear a collar with metal buckle? Sometimes that can cause a sore due to an allergic reaction, and the sore won’t heal until you remove the cause. – ANDREA —   Get PAID for the emails you already send and receive!                   ANDROMEDA – Internet Goddess Bloodaxe’s History Links:   http://www.geocities.com/Athens/5055/ The Loony Bin Archive:               http://loonies.net800.co.uk/

Sure enough it is the same sore she had last time I cared for her in the summer. I am thinking that the antibiotic cream they are using is not strong enough, and that because the scab on the sore is so thick, that the cream is unable to penetrate it to get to the skin level.
