Dog Importing And Exporting
Question:
>Well lets see – which is better losing the lines if the legislation expands >or getting the dogs out while people can? >Nancy
I would tend to agree that it would be best to get as many out as possible. I don’t think they’ll be successful in stopping the legislation , if they are this time it will be back. It’s come down to fighting a holding action. Yup I know that’s a fatalistic outlook , and no it doesn’t mean I’ll quit supporting them and doinh what I can to help. However it seems that canines in general are in trouble around the globe and in some cases being used as sort of scapegoat for other societal problems. Siiiighhhhhhh.

Oh, it gets better! The same guy decided to move his dog and family to the UK when the dog was under 2 years old. The poor thing spent 6 months in the UK quaarentined (sp)? area, (Big BUCKS), and is now ready to come home, 2 yrs. later! Is that a pisser, or what?! Terri

I imported an Irish Wolfhound puppy from Ireland back in January. At the time she was 13 weeks old. She was sent in a 300 size kennel. The cost to send her from Dublin Ireland to Kansas City Missouri was just under 300 dollars. I would like to point out that if you are consider doing this it is best to call ALL the airlines and get a price quote. I found that the cost of shipping her ranged from 300-2500 dollars depending on which airline was going to ship her. I used Delta and found them to be very professional and helpful. the first small dog I had shipped in from Germany cost me about $250 for the shipping and the crate – the purchase price of the dog included the health certificate and delivery to the airport. The second dog cost a lot more as I flew over there and visited and brought the pup back under my seat

And that’s probably exclusive of the costs of *researching* the planned dog first. Personally I wouldn’t consider importing unless I had attended a number of dog shows or performance events in the country I was consider importing from, then spending time (and a fortune on long-distance calls!
) talking to the breeder whose dog I was considering acquiring. Sure, you can just buy a dog "through the mail" from someone you don’t know well, but I feel it’s taking a big chance to do so. Incidentally, Malcolm Willis has some EXCELLENT advice on importing in "Practical Genetics for Dog Breeders." Dianne

haven’t a clue. you should probably call the airline(s). i would assume that they would need to know the size of the crate and the weight of the crate + dog. shelly and elliott & harriet > >Did you have to have your dog quaranteened as well? Like I said " nobody in their right mind" , though perhaps the above are there to get some deserving canines out before the canine version of " Krystalnacht" comes down like a hammer.

Adding up how much we paid to move Oscar back from Australia with us and how much we’re going to pay to move Oscar back *to* Australia, we could get about 8 Weimaraners. It’s cheaper to just feed one, I suppose. Kristine & Oscar
