Yeah! I thought he was fine until animals got involved. I couldn’t believe about my fish. I cried and cried; they were like my babies. I had a fire eel too! A Tire Track eel, two Yellow Spiney eels, three Snoflake eels, four rubber eels, and a couple of other strains of freshwater Moray eels. They all ate live bloodworms that I would put in this mini fish bowl and sink in the water. It was so weird how the blood worms couldn’t get out!! The sales people told me that the larger eels would only eat worms as I was afraid for my Cichlids and Gourami’s. I had a lot of those realistic cloth plants in the tank and tons of natural rock formations. So when a few Gourami’s came up missing I thought they were hiding. Then I couldn’t find my bumble bees, or my male Swordtail. Then one morning about a week after the larger eels arrival I was looking at the tank and almost choked when a Moray eel shot out of a rock formation and grabbed one of my Upside down cat fish!! He came down and began shaking him back and forth, I could hear the cat fish squealing! Yikes!! I grabbed a net and swished it in there and he let go. The catfish sustained major injuries and I found him floating in a sick tank I had put him in with tank antibiotic and Stress Coat two days later. :^( – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text -> a Gold Dojo hopped out of my 15 gallon tank and survived for an > hour unbeknownst to me on the family room floor. A Gold Dojo is part of the Loach family, ie; Kuhli Loach, Clown Loach, etc. They are a pretty orange gold and are small eel like looking creatures with frontal and hind fins as well as a tailfin. They have mouths like most bottom feeders ( Corey cats, Convict Cats, Emerald Cats, etc. )meaning a bunch of feelers around a suction hole!! They’re really neat looking and can suddenly get super active for no reason, I mean like freaking out as if they were just electrocuted, and then just as suddenly, STOP, like they’re dead or something. Then they’ll just sit wherever they floated to when they froze and stay there for a while. Kind of weird. I had a couple of Flounders too! Never did find the suckers when I drained the 55 gallon though! I hear they are amazingly resilant as you obviously found out!! — ~Darlene~ Scamp’s Internet Resources, lot’s of great links! http://members.tripod.com/scampsite Pet links! What an @sshole!!! I bred live bearing tropical fish for the local pet shops at one time. I loved my fish! Once I had a Black Ghost Knife because I thought they were so cool looking, I bought a ghost tube for him and everything. I paid close to $20 for him not counting the tube and the morning after I bought him I got a cup of coffee and went to relax in front of the tank as usual the 55 gallon ) and noticed something black on the floor. At the time our Boxer Bo was still a puppy at six months old, and I thought he had an accident. I would note two things. First at 8 months of age, he has no reason to need to get up in the middle of the night for potty breaks. He’s a big boy, now. The second thing I would note is that dogs are pack animals. It’s very natural for them to WANT to sleep with you. You don’t have to let him on the bed. Hi! > I don’t like crates, I feel that they’re small, cold, and unfriendly > (if you know what I mean).
OK, look at it this way. If you had him sleep in a crate, with the door closed, beside your bed (even on your nightstand so he can see you), he would be much happier than being alone in a room by himself. He might still whine at first until he got used to the idea, because even though he’s beside you he’d surely want to be even closer to you, since that’s how we’ve bred dogs to be — dependent on us, with a huge pack drive that makes them want to be with us always. But it’s got to be better for him than sleeping alone. Being alone, if you are a wild dog or a wolf, means almost certain death, and that’s why most dogs detest it so much. They are genetically wired to detest being alone and to make a huge fuss in the hopes that somebody from their pack will come rescue them before they die. Making a dog sleep alone at night is much worse, to me, than making them sleep in a crate beside me. > Also about him being a big boy at 8 months. I’ve been told by many > other yorkie people that he’s a genius because he was potty trained by > 6 months. Yorkies are small dogs with even smaller bladders. Yes, you are right that a lot of tiny dogs are very hard to housebreak. But here’s one more thing you might consider. If a dog is asleep, he’s not going to need to get up to pee until he wakes up. Therefore it’s to your best interests to try to help him sleep as long as possible, so that you can get more sleep. I bet that if he were in the bedroom with you, he’d not need to get up at 4 AM on the days you don’t work, because he’d feel secure that you haven’t left him or forgotten him because he’d be able to be next to you. I bet he won’t need to get up at 4 AM on your days off, and I also bet that even if he does still get up somewhat earlier than you want to get up, he’ll go right back to sleep if he can be with you after he pees. Personally, I have a very weird schedule. Sometimes I stay up all night studying and then I sleep when my daughter is at school. My dogs do not care one bit as long as they get to be with me. They will sleep all day if that’s what I’m doing. They absolutely do not bother me at all and they go right to sleep in my room with me. They just naturally like to sleep when I’m sleeping and don’t usually make any noise, but they also have some training so that they know what I mean when I tell them to quiet down. Yorkies are smart dogs, and next to Pappillons they are probably one of the most trainable toys. I think you can easily train your pup to stay off your bed and on the floor, if that’s what your hubs wants and if you feel too bad crating him. But until you get to that point, there’s nothing wrong with crating him beside your bed. good luck, cindi > Dana and Ivan "the Terrible"
