Yorkie-Neutering Stops House Urinating?

Question:

Robby, Yes, a new doctor at my vet’s place suggested neutering.  She didn’t mention any of the reasons you did.  When I asked why, she said, "Because you’re supposed to!"  One, the puppy had a championship pedigree (even though we had bought him as a pet) and we were reluctant to neuter him at three months.  Two, I didn’t like her tone!  (She since has been replaced). Showed her, didn’t we?!  :-( I guess my next step is to have him neutered and start the re-training process.  Wish me luck! Your dog already has the habit of marking the house and habits don’t just go away by themselves.  Neutering him will take away the urge to mark his territory, but only retraining him will get rid of the habit.

I have a three year old male yorkshire terrier named Rocky who constant marks "his" areas all over the house.  My pet groomer told me that having Rocky neutered would put a stop to this.  True? Jim McGowan

Response:

I have seen this work extremely well and also have seen it fail if used as the sole ‘cure’ – certainly it is easier to properly housetrain a neutered toy breed male than an intact one Nancy
